Moral Healing Groups Outline

Military Chaplain

My name is Jeremy. I am an experienced military chaplain with 22 years of dedicated service in the Army, more than a decade of that spent as a chaplain. Throughout my career, I have provided spiritual support, counseling, and guidance to soldiers and their families, addressing the unique challenges and moral dilemmas faced by our military personnel. My extensive experience has deepened my commitment to promoting moral healing and fostering resilience in those who serve.

Clinical Chaplain

I am also a clinical chaplain in the civilian realm with over a decade of experience working with service members from all components in a specialized mental health hospital for military, inpatient setting. My focus is on providing compassionate spiritual care and support, helping individuals navigate the complexities of mental health challenges while fostering moral healing and resilience.

In September of 2018 I was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After weeks and months of inpatient chemotherapy, surgeries, and complications, my oncologist discovered that I had a rare mutation called Philadelphia-like chromosome. This made a bone marrow transplant (BMT) necessary.

I was put through an intense pre-BMT regimen for a week, which included full body radiation (see pic on the left) and more intense chemotherapy than previously experienced. This killed off all of the diseased white blood cells and cleared space for blood stem cells from a donor. My blood type changed from O+ to A+!

Afterwards I developed an autoimmune disease called graft vs. host disease (GVHD). This disease attacked my skin, mouth and eyes. We were able to get a handle on the skin and mouth, but my eyes are now permanently damaged, creating extreme dry eyes. In order to compensate, I wear ski goggles all day long, wear moisture-locking Sclera contact lenses, and put drops in my eyes 20-50 times a day.
